Music Promo Shoot - Brutus 'Horde II'

September 5, 2017 Capture Account
Brutus Logos.png

We've kept it under wraps until today's official online release but back in July we shot a music promo for a remarkable band called Brutus for their track 'Horde II'. The Belgian trio, led by multi-talented vocalist and drummer Stefanie Mannaerts, are an incredible live band and so their management, Hassle Records, wanted a high intensity, performance led video to show new listeners what they're all about.

The concept selected by Hassle, created by Capture's Lee Holmes, was to create a completely mirrored environment in which the band would play, with the band enclosed by the set the restricted space was juxtaposed by the infinite reflections the mirrors created.  The band's energy literally bounced off the walls and we were able to encapsulate the brilliant intensity of a live Brutus performance.

As you can imagine creating a fully mirrored space, large enough for the band and at the same time ensuring no camera's were ever in shot came with it's challenges!  But we were able to shoot some great footage of Brutus, masterfully edited by Lee Holmes and graded in the brilliant grading facility Studio RM by Jamie Noble to give the promo a really high quality finish.

Check out the promo to see how it turned out and some behind the scenes photos below:

The Man from Mo'Wax Irish Premiere - Galway Film Festival

July 15, 2017 Capture Account

The musical city of Galway was the perfect place to host the Irish premiere of our film so we were naturally very excited when we found out The Man from Mo'Wax was nominated for Best International Documentary at this year's Galway Film Festival. There was an excellent turn out for the screening in the Mo'Wax red Cinemobile truck and a wonderful response to the film during the extensive Q&A held with producer M J McMahon. During the festival we saw a special screening of director Richard Kelly’s 2008 Southland Tales, in addition to this we saw Francis Lee’s God’s Own Country a wonderful film about falling in love on a farm in Yorkshire as well as the closing film of the festival Return to Montauk starring Stellan Skarsgard and Nina Hoss. The festival had lots to offer from Q&A’s with film-makers to masterclass talks and a fantastic closing night party.

Cannes Film Festival 2017

May 17, 2017 Capture Account

May has been a pretty busy month here at Capture, but we certainly aren't complaining!  From Lisbon to Warsaw and now to the French Riviera we're counting ourselves lucky.  We headed to Cannes for the first day of the festival, attending the 70th Cannes Film Festival opening night party which was quite a way to start the week, the rest of which was filled with some brilliant receptions, parties and of course great films.  Scroll down for a few photos of our trip to Cannes:

The Man from Mo'Wax at IndieLisboa

May 7, 2017 Capture Account

We headed to Lisbon, accompanied by our favourite pink Pointman, for the Portuguese premiere of The Man from Mo'Wax at the 12th IndieLisboa film festival!  A welcomed break from the grey skies of London sunny Lisbon proved to be a great city to explore and IndieLisboa an excellent festival to attend.

The festival takes over the city screening an excellent program of films in some truly amazing venues, The Man from Mo'Wax's first screening was held in the incredible open air cinema on the roof of the Cineteatro Capitolio (originally built in the 1930s).  When we weren't catching some of the other excellent films that made up this year's program we were eating our way round the city, taking in it's architecture or checking out the festival's many events.  We had a brilliant couple of days in Lisbon and certainly can't wait to return!  Below you can see a photos from the trip:

what3words Quiqup Head to Head

April 20, 2017 Capture Account

We've had an exciting week at Capture working with navigation app what3words and courier company Quipup to create a head to head challenge between two delivery drivers using differing navigation systems.  After what3words approached Quiqup with the idea of a test to prove how simple and efficient what3words is compared to competing addressing systems, we came on board to create a dynamic piece.

Together with what3words our Director M J McMahon cast two Quiqees, Octavian and Errol, to star in the film and compete against each other to deliver 20 packages in the fastest time, one using the what3words system, the other using regular street addresses.  We got to Westbourne Studios bright and early with steadicam operator Max Rijavec, armed with a Sony FS7 and four GoPros.  Once the drivers arrived we got to attaching the GoPros to their bikes and helmets so we could get full coverage of the day's 20 runs and shot their introduction interviews... then the challenge began!

We met the Quiqees at four designated drop off points throughout the day to shoot catch up interviews on how each of them felt their deliveries were going and how the addressing system they were using was affecting them.  After the 20 deliveries we met back at Westbourne Studios for final round up interviews.  The next day we headed to Quiqup HQ to meet the company's CTO to record an additional interview and get an overview of the previous day's statistics - watch the video below to find out the results!

Our project manager Lee Holmes was kindly flown out to Amsterdam by the team at VoiceBooking.com to attend the Promax BDA Europe Conference 2017. The event took place across just two days but was jam packed with talks and sessions on a variety of subjects ranging from design to creative strategy and from marketing to the future of virtual reality.

Lee's whistle stop trip to Amsterdam meant an early flight from London City Airport before heading to the stunning Beurs Van Berlage for the afternoon's events, culminating in the evening's Welcome Reception which presented the opportunity to not only meet fellow attendees but also the events speakers. Such as internationally acclaimed film and tv titles designer Richard Morrisson and illustrator and keynote speaker, Mr Bingo.

Amsterdam and the conference centre both looked lovely across the two days.

Matthew Jones director of our feature doc The Man from Mo'Wax was thrilled to be invited to join the panel discussion 'Shut Up and Play the Hits: Making Music Docs' at the 10th BFI Future Film Fest.  The event for young filmmakers aged 16-25 celebrates their successes and offers great experiences across a weekend from industry workshops to practical masterclasses, screenings of films by young filmmakers, networking sessions and panel Q&As.

Matthew joined directors Ben Lankester and Johanna Schwart (director of They Will Have to Kill Us First) and Patrick Nation head of Resident Advisor Films and behind the Real Scenes series for a Q&A on making music documentaries and all that entails.  It was a brilliant session with an engaged audience of future filmmakers who made sure to keep the discussion interesting!

The Man from Mo'Wax Balkans Tour

February 16, 2017 Capture Account
British_Council_logo.svg.png

We headed to Serbia for the British Council's PlayUK film festival!  PlayUK is a unique festival celebrating British film and bringing British cinema to six Western Balkans states.  This year ten films including our documentary The Man from Mo'Wax made up the three day program that screened simultaneously across ten cinemas in Belgrade, Podgorica, Prizren, Sarajevo, Skopje and Tirana.

We flew from London to Belgrade for the first leg of our Balkans tour and after getting settled in at the hotel and coming to terms with the freezing temperatures we headed to the festival's opening reception.  Danny Boyle's T2 Trainspotting opened the festival on Thursday night, the film really is great sequel to the original and a chance to revisit the much loved characters.  After the screening we attended a wonderful dinner with Milica Božanić, Executive Director of the Serbian Film Commission, and writer Paul Fraser (who was attending to give a talk on script writing and editing).  We spent Friday exploring and taking in some of what Belgrade has to offer and were lucky enough to experience some local haunts with our Serbian distributor friend Igor Stanković.

Next we headed off to Sarajevo, where we were greeted by a foot and half of snow, for the festival's first screening of The Man from Mo'Wax on Saturday night which was attended by a brilliant audience (including the British Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Edward Ferguson) at the Kino Meeting Point.  After the screening the film's producers M J McMahon and Brian A. Hoffman took part in a Q&A with DJ, producer and sound designer Nenad Kovačević.  It was a brilliant evening, from the Mo'Wax tracks from the film's soundtrack playing in the cinema's foyer before the screening to the reception afterwards, our first screening at PlayUK was a huge success!

There was certainly no rest for the wicked on this trip, on Sunday morning we were back on our way to Belgrade (with Brian taking the scenic route aka a road trip from Bosnia to Serbia!) to close the festival with another screening of The Man from Mo'Wax.  M J McMahon and Brian A. Hoffman introduced the doc before it screened simultaneously in Belgrade, Podgorica, Prizren, Skopje and Tirana.  After the film we headed to the Mo'Wax party thrown in tribute to our film - what a great way to finish up our trip to the Balkans!

The Man from Mo'Wax at Shimmerlands

February 2, 2017 Capture Account

The Man from Mo'Wax was back in Australia for a special screening at the University of Melbourne.  The film screened at the Shimmerlands outdoor cinema as part of a program curated by the creators of Shadow Electric which included a great selection of new releases and classics from La La Land and Paterson to Bladerunner.  Shimmerlands is a two month program of great events both during the day and at night featuring not just the outdoor cinema but an outdoor music amphitheatre, multiple bars and lounges, DJ sets and an outdoor dining area boasting the menus of some of Melbourne's best restaurants.

Our doc screened on Thursday the 2nd of Feb to another great Aussie audience and we're so pleased it featured on another program down under!  Check out some photos of Shimmerland below:

The Man from Mo'Wax Italian Premiere

January 29, 2017 Capture Account

We headed to Turin for the Italian premiere of The Man from Mo'Wax at SEEYOUSOUND festival. Turin is a city quite literally built around cinema. The central Cinema Museum tours above the city and acts as the most recognisable of local landmarks.  We of course had to venture inside where we found original Props from Star Wars (including a Darth Fader helmet, something that makes a cameo in our own film), Superman, and Planet of the Apes. The singular glass elevator takes you to the top for stunning panoramic views of the city.

Next door the venue of Cinema Massimo is home to the emerging festival SEEYOUSOUND.  Now in its 3rd year the festival features both documentary and fictional films connected by their musical subject matter. The Man from Mo'Wax had a fantastic turnout with over 150 people coming out for the screening followed by a special bilingual Q&A.  To top off the night  we headed to a specially organised mini Mo'Wax after party until 2am spinning tunes from La Funk Mob, DJ Shadow, Attica Blues and more. A wonderful night.

It's been another busy week here at Capture! On Sunday we headed to Ludlow to direct and produce 4 x 20 second drone shoots for what3words, which will be used to highlight the many different ways in which their global addressing system can be utilised, ranging from deliveries to emergencies. Each shoot contained an epic wide shot, and a tighter shot to draw attention to the specific what3words address.

The Man from Mo'Wax festival tour continues, this time to Braunschweig for the film's German Premiere which screened as part of the 30th Braunschweig International Film Festival.  We headed to the city in the early hours of Thursday morning to catch the last few days of the festival and represent our documentary.

The Man from Mo'wax was part of the festival's Our Sound on Screen-Programme which was split into two strands, the Spotlight section which consisted of five new music documentaries, and The Sound of Northern England: Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield honouring a few of Northern England's talented bands, from The Beatles to Pulp and The Stone Roses (whose front men both feature in our film).  The Man from Mo'Wax screened on the 10th of November at the Universum to a wonderful audience, after the screening we were thrilled to meet a Mo'Wax fan who naturally had a whole heap of questions to discuss over a few biers.

The next couple of days were spent watching some excellent films and attending the festival's talks and events.  Friday's highlight was the screening of Hardcore Henry and subsequent Q&A with director Ilya Naishuller who we had the pleasure of hanging out with afterwards, and on Saturday we caught We Are X, which has graced many of the same festival programmes as The Man from Mo'Wax this year.  BIFF also hosted a number of great events and talks, including interviews with the festival's European Actors Award winner Brendan Gleeson and composer Patrick Doyle who has scored Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Bridget Jones's Diary, A United Kingdom and one of our favorites Carlito's Way, just to name a few!

We're definitely pleased we made the trip to Braunschweig for a brilliant festival, check out some of the photos of our time there below:

To launch Kele’s album 2042, BIG LIFE Management tasked Capture to realise Kele’s personal vision and concept for a music video for the track Guava Rubicon. “This Video will always be beautiful for me as its simply two woman of colour who are in love, no tricks, no gimmicks, just love.
