Hey everyone it’s Joe Reynolds from Killing Thyme here! I haven’t seen anyone at Capture since I filmed Killing Thyme back in 2014. Whilst filming I was 8 years old and I’m 13 now and in only a couple months I will be 14! Because of this, I wanted to take the opportunity I had in the form of work shadowing to go and see everyone at Capture. Also, I am still really interested in acting now and when I leave school, acting is what I want to do. Therefore I thought that having a look at the kind of work that goes on in a production studio would be a great experience and give me further knowledge to help me when I’m older and trying to succeed as a professional actor.
On the 5th and 6th of July I got the train into London to do work shadowing at the Capture Studio. At school we have been looking at life after school and how to cope with jobs, finance and other adult responsibilities. These two days were a chance for me to go to the studio and learn about jobs that I have an interest in.
My working day started at 10:30 and I met with Hen, Mac and Lee (Matt was at the studio on Friday) who I was really pleased to see again. I was nervous because, as a Year 8 student, I had never been to work anywhere (apart from acting). However everyone at the office were such friendly and familiar faces that I almost felt at home and I could relax!
Over the two days, Mac, Hen, Lee and Matt set me some tasks which I could complete alongside the booklet I was given by the school such as writing my own reviews of Hawk, The Girl in the Dress and Gin & Dry to post on Vimeo and IMDB – I thought all 3 films were great! Mac also helped me to develop my photography skills when I went to different parts of the studio and he helped me to try different methods to get the best picture out of each frame.
It was an amazing experience to see a potential future career of mine and learn more about it and also it was great seeing everyone at the studio again! I would like to thank everyone at Capture for giving me this great opportunity and making these past couple of days really interesting as well as incredibly fun!
