Music plays a significant part in Hawk; Stuart Hancock composed the score to enhance the beauty of the landscapes you see and the emotion of the story being played out upon the screen. Once the score was composed Stuart, Director/Writer M J McMahon, Producer Matthew Jones, and Editor James Carter headed to Bratislava, Slovakia, to watch the soundtrack come to life, through The Bratislava Symphony Orchestra. We were thrilled to get the opportunity to work alongside a talented group of musicians with an exceptional reputation, who were more than willing to help out with our short film.

After a very early start, we arrived in Bratislava at 9:30, grabbed a bite to eat and made our way to the Slovak Radio Building, where the excitement really kicked in once we saw the vast Music Hall. Within twenty minutes the hall was packed full of musicians ready to perform, along with Conductor David Hernado, who proved a joy to work with, and captured the dark and dramatic element of our score wonderfully. While the main body of the Orchestra were finished at 7, that wasn't the end of the day as 4 horn performers arrived to arrived recording the brass section, and completing a long but exhilarating day.

The whole Orchestral part of the score was finished recording within the day, and once we'd grabbed a drink in a nearby pub, we made our way back to England, after being awake for nearly 37 hours. It was most definitely a trip well worth taking, as the soundtrack is now a very vital part of the film!
