Capture had a blast in Austin at South by South West where our latest project, had it's World Premiere, screening as part of the festival's prestigious 24 Beats per Second section! Kicking off the filmmaking fun, Director Matthew Jones and Producer M J McMahon were lucky enough to attend the filmmakers lunch at Trouble Maker Studios. The speakers at the event included SXSW's Head of Film Janet Pierson as well as filmmaker/screenwriter Robert Rodriguez. A great opportunity to network with other filmmakers (whilst consuming copious amounts of traditional Texas BBQ), the event was a perfect start to a great 10 days!
The Man from Mo'Wax (formerly known as Artist & Repertoire) had its big World Premiere on Sunday the 13th of April at the beautiful Alamo Ritz in Austin. With a great turnout and an even better reception (as well as the first sunny skies since the beginning of the festival), Capture's feature film debut was a day to remember. With a total of three screenings across the festival to amazing audiences including members of the BFI, the BBC, Variety, the Verge and renowned film critic Harry Knowles (Ain't It Cool News), the film ended up generating a lot of buzz in Austin, both online and in print media. It was an amazing reception from an amazing city and a truly memorable first step in the life of the film.
When the team weren't out representing The Man from Mo'Wax at screenings across Austin, they were kept busy by the festival's multiple events. For anyone that's even slightly unsure of how large the festival is, it basically takes over the entire city of Austin. From acoustic gigs in ice cream shops on the edge of city to to industry talks by the likes of Ellen Page and Joel Edgerton in massive venues at the centre of town, the festival is a melting pot of music, film and technology. With some fantastic films watched, some seriously delicious food consumed and some really great buzz generated for Artist & Repertoire, SXSW definitely didn't disappoint!
SXSW was most definitely the place to be, and on that note, here are a few shots from our time in Austin:
